Something to Say
By Cindy Agoncillo
I love good conversation. (According to my Facebook profile, I “like” it along with dancing, eating, and YouTube.) I have talked with friends and roommates into the early hours of the morning and have gotten to know complete strangers while waiting in line for standby tickets to Saturday Night Live. Sometimes the topic is deep and personal. Other times, it’s bacon (“Wait, you mean bacon isn’t deep and personal?” asks Lucas Colton, art director).
My love of good conversation isn’t limited to my personal life. As Managing Editor of Pet Boarding & Daycare, I enjoy the interaction that you, our readers, have with this magazine. We’ve received Facebook comments, emails, and even a letter or two in the mail. Through your correspondence, we are learning more about you, your facilities, and how to make this magazine better with each new issue.
I also have the opportunity to talk with various pet care industry professionals like veterinarians and animal behaviorists. Dr. Kelly Harrison lectures on cleaning and disinfection at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and is also the former owner and operator of a canine daycare facility. In this issue’s special section on sanitation, Dr. Harrison lays out the foundations of cleaning and disinfection (“The Fur-1-1 on Sanitation, Part One,” page 30). Dr. Valarie Tynes is a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist with a special interest in exotic pets. She is eager to share her knowledge to help you provide the best care for all the animals in your facility, including the less common ones. For this issue, Dr. Tynes addresses the special care that pet rabbits need (“Boarding the Pet Rabbit,” page 18). Look for Dr. Tynes this November at the Pet Boarding & Daycare Expo!
Not only does this magazine allow me to talk with our readers and writers, but it also generates conversation between you and others in the industry. Whether you connect with another reader over your shared love of doggie swimming pools or don’t exactly see eye-to-eye on required vaccinations, these discussions are wonderful opportunities to learn from each other and improve your facility as well as the overall pet boarding and daycare industry. Just remember that good conversations require talking and listening.
If you have something to say, we look forward to hearing from you. And if you’re joining us in Baltimore for the Pet Boarding & Daycare Expo, maybe we can sit down and chat!
